My Approach
Functional Nutrition
Nutrition is a fundamental aspect of looking and feeling our best. Our bodies are constantly working hard; growing and repairing, providing energy, digesting food, thinking and so much more. In order to do this it needs raw materials found in food.
We wouldn’t put regular gas in a diesel car and expect it to work, but many people eat food that is not fueling them effectively. Our bodies don’t necessarily completely stop with the wrong gas but that does not mean we are functioning at an optimum level.
In order to keep our bodies in good health we need the right balance of nutrients for nourishment, energy and vitality. Yet, the pressure of modern life can translate into poor eating habits and the quality of our food can be very low on our list of priorities.
To top it off there are so many conflicting messages in the media making it hard to figure out what to eat – the wrong food can cause significant consequences for your health.
By eating the right food you can potentially improve numerous health conditions:
• gain more energy
• improve digestion
• minimize risk of disease
• optimize your physical and emotional well-being
• enhance performance
• loss weight
This is not something that we can get wrong.
If you’re suffering with health issues that never seem to go away why not book an appointment, and we can devise a plan to meet your needs.
You don’t have to live on salads to achieve results. The key to optimizing your nutrition is through the understanding, practicality, and enjoyment of food.
Understanding – the knowledge of your own unique nutritional needs and the scientific evidence to address those needs.
Practicality – making good nutrition a simple and achievable part of a busy lifestyle.
Enjoyment – because food should be a pleasure, tasting great and nourishing us at the same time.
Combining a clear understanding of biochemistry, food energetics and our complex relationship with food, I offer a warm and inspiring approach with practical ideas, encouraging you to take back control and responsibility for your own health and well-being. In both one-to-one consultations and as a lecturer and teacher, I share tools, knowledge and inspiration gathered over many years to help you restore a state of balance and clarity. Helping you nourish yourself fully again.

Herbal Medicine
Herbal medicine is the art and science of using herbs for promoting health and preventing and treating illness. Plants have been used for their healing properties for thousands of years. It is the oldest known healing art. Each plant has its own unique properties that require different gathering and preparing techniques.
Master Herbalists are aware of issues surrounding herbal product quality, safety and herb-drug interactions. When used properly most herbs are safe and do not cause adverse side effects, but instead support the body’s own natural tendency to heal itself.
Herbalists focus on the person as an individual irrespective of the disease or condition they have. By using herbs, diet and lifestyle changes the persons innate healing power is stimulated.
Naturopathy
The practice of naturopathy is based on six key principles:
• Promote the healing power of nature.
• First do no harm. Naturopathic practitioners choose therapies with the intent to keep harmful side effects to a minimum and not suppress symptoms.
• Treat the whole person. Practitioners believe a person’s health is affected by many factors, such as physical, mental, emotional, genetic, environmental, and social ones. Practitioners consider all these factors when choosing therapies and use a clinically designed program for each client.
• Remove the cause. Practitioners seek to identify and remove the causes of a condition, rather than its symptoms. They believe that symptoms are signs that the body is trying to fight illness, adapt to it, or recover from it.
• Prevention is the best cure. Practitioners teach ways of living that they consider most healthy and most likely to prevent illness.
• The physician is a teacher. Practitioners consider it important to educate their clients in taking responsibility for their own health.
A traditional, classical naturopath specializes in wellness, teaching clients how applying natural lifestyle approaches can act to facilitate the body’s own natural healing and health building potential. The traditional naturopath does not undertake to “diagnose” or “treat diseases,” but rather recognizes that the majority of sub-health conditions are cumulative lifestyle effects, and that the underlying cause of what we call “disease” (or, “dis-ease”) is improper diet, unhealthy habits, and environmental factors which cause biological imbalances leading to a weakening of the bodies’ natural defenses and subsequent breakdown in health. The practice of Traditional Naturopathy is not considered the practice of medicine.
All disease (dis-ease) is a “lack of ease” or lack of homeostasis in the body. What Allopathic (medical) doctors call diseases are only symptoms of a greater underlying problem. Disease is nothing more than a manifestation of our bodies trying to correct imbalances. These imbalances are due to faulty nutritional patterns, improper rest, stress management and other lifestyle considerations which over time can result in a weakening of the body. By the time disease appears on the scene it is very late in the game!
Our body tells us early on when there is a problem and we can either respond to these “messages” or try to suppress the symptoms the body uses to tell us there is a problem. You can take Tylenol, or other drugs, to suppress the symptoms and they will help for a while, but unless the underlying problem is corrected, eventually the symptoms will no longer be suppressed by these drugs and one will need to take stronger and stronger drugs to quiet the body’s message.
Naturopathy concentrates on identifying destructive aspects of the lifestyle in the early phases, when lifestyle changes can occur to bring long-term benefit. Before symptoms manifest and long before a diagnosis can be rendered, these destructive aspects of our lifestyle can be identified and corrected. Once corrected, the body automatically begins to correct itself. Diagnosing disease and illness is totally unnecessary to correcting the underlying problems which result in disease and illness.
Nutrition Response Testing
It’s a very precise method using the body’s own Neurological Reflexes to identify weaknesses caused by food or immune related changes, heavy metals or toxic chemicals, and to identify what supplements, or combination of supplements, your body actually needs to help it improve it’s systemic functions, i.e. Central Nervous, Circulatory, Digestive, Endocrine and other Bodily Systems. It can also identify specific organ nutritional challenges.
Imagine finding a way for your body to actually tell us what it needs and the sequence in which to address these “needs”.
The Neurological reflexes are derived from the part of the nervous system whose job is to regulate the functions of each and every organ.
Nutrition Response TestingSM is a study of how the different points on the surface of the body relate to the state of health and the flow of energy in each and every organ and function of the body.
You may have several weak areas, but these areas may all be weak as a result of one central focal point. Very much like opening a combination lock, you must use the right numbers in the right sequence and in the right direction at the right time-then the lock falls open.
Each Nutrition Response TestingSM reflex represents a specific organ, tissue, or function, and indicates the effects that energy, or the lack of energy, is having on the body.
By testing these reflexes, we have a system of monitoring your body at each visit that has proven to be extremely accurate clinically, which helps us identify exactly what the body needs and how well we are meeting that need.
By following the correct sequence revealed through Nutritional Response TestingSM, you don’t “shotgun” your diet or supplements.
We can determine the correct food supplements for you – “designed” to give your body the best possible chance of getting well and staying that way.
Highly concentrated therapeutic supplements are made available to you in tablets, capsules, liquid or in powdered form to “supplement” your current diet. That’s why they are called “food supplements”. This gets your body back in control of it’s own health.
It is possible to restore your health. What could be more natural? What could be more correct? Each cell, tissue, and organ in your body is in the process of replacing itself every day, month, and year. The health of each organ is dependent on the taking the correct nutrients.
Depending on your individual situation, we might also require that you make some specific changes in your diet and eating habits, and in your routines, in order to bring about the best possible result.
You decide how quickly you want your body to be healthier.
What is DESIGNED CLINICAL NUTRITION?
Designed Clinical Nutrition is not “over-the-counter” vitamins. Over-the-counter vitamins are pharmaceutically engineered chemical fractions of vitamin structures reproduced in a laboratory. They are not “Whole Food,” and the body does not actually recognize these as anything even vaguely beneficial.
Because they are not made from whole foods, “over-the-counter” vitamins lack the essential synergistic elements normally present in WHOLE foods.
An example of whole food could be carrots. Carrots are high in Vitamin A Complex. A “complex” is something made up of many different parts that work together. Synthetic Vitamin A does not contain the whole “Vitamin A Complex” found in nature. If one actually were deficient in any of the components of Vitamin A Complex, one would be wise to seek out a supplement that was made from whole foods that were rich in this complex – not from chemicals re-engineered in a laboratory to look like one little part of the Vitamin A Complex that has erroneously been labeled as “Vitamin A”.
“Designed Clinical Nutrition” is exactly that: designed (especially prepared based on a specific plan) clinical (pertaining to the results gotten in clinical use or actual practice on huge numbers of clients over many years) nutrition (real food, designed by nature to enable the body to repair itself and grow healthfully). There is a great deal of technology and know-how behind this process.
This type of testing has been designed through decades of clinical use on tens of thousands of clients, and on clients from many different types of health care practitioners. You can be assured that Nutrition Response TestingSM is capable of evaluating and solving your health concerns.
A complete Nutrition Response TestingSM analysis can be performed on each client on each subsequent visit thereby revealing the next layers of dysfunction, so these can also be addressed and corrected.
Many health care professionals across the country are joining forces in learning this incredible technique. The results for improving health have been in the 90% and better range.
This testing is very different from anything you may have experienced before. It has helped me improve my health.
In medical practices there are two key parts: diagnosis (identifying and/or naming the “disease” or syndrome) and the treatment (drugs, surgery etc.)
In Nutrition Response TestingSM we do not diagnosis nor treat any disease – but we also have two parts: we do an analysis first and then we design a personalized natural health improvement program (using designed clinical nutrition) to help you handle what we find in our analysis of your body and condition.
This testing has shown that many people have eaten themselves into their current state of ill health, to one degree or another. The deficiencies or imbalances lead to a breakdown in resistance, or immunity, and a loss of the ability to cope with environmental stresses (chemical, microscopic, or otherwise). The good news is that it is possible to reverse the process!
Are You Ready for Change?
First step
Sign up for your initial functional nutrition appointment.
Before Your First Consultation
When you have booked your consultation you can expect an email from the HIPPA complaint platform requesting health history information including a food diary. This is very thorough and takes awhile to fill out. It is not necessary to complete it in one sitting. Keep the food diary for at least three days; the more days included will help me understand your eating habits even more. Be honest about where you’re at that will give us the best roadmap to get you to where you want to be. Complete the intake at least 24 hours before the appointment and fax any available bloodwork.
After Receiving Intake Form
The Intake Form will be reviewed prior to our appointment. I’ll start compiling a list of diet, supplement and lifestyle changes for you to try, plus any additional lab tests to identify the root of the problem. This is exciting because there are many ways that we can improve your health.
First Consultation
The initial consultation can occur via phone or in person.
First, we will review the intake form and make sure that I understand everything and know what you have tried in the past.
From there, together we will work on the action steps, I believe you should take to get you feeling healthier as quickly as possible.
Through highlighting the areas in your health and well-being that need to be worked on, we will together create a realistic strategy that addresses these issues. You’ll come away with an understanding of the nutrition issues relevant to you, dietary and lifestyle recommendations.
If you have any recent blood work, this will be discussed during your consultation.
This session takes between 90-120 minutes.
A Few Days After First Consultation
A few days after your appointment, you’ll get a plan that includes your customized action steps. This will vary from case to case but typically includes dietary and lifestyle changes, a personalized supplement routine and recommended additional lab tests along with handouts with additional supportive information.
Though I prefer food for nutrition there are some circumstance that I may suggest some supplementation with vitamins, minerals or herbs.
I stock some supplements, if I don’t have the one we decide you need I will advise which ones to buy and from where.
Follow Up Consultation
2-3 weeks after your initial consultation. We have a 20 minute follow-up to discuss about how its going and making any necessary modifications.
Additional Follow Up Consultations
It is usually beneficial to have follow up consultations, it is helpful to talk about how you are responding to the changes, and how you are finding the plan. It is a good time to make slight changes to the protocol, and to see how we can make the changes last for a lifetime!
If you have had any tests carried out, then this is a great time to go through them, and I can explain the results to you.
This session takes between 30-45 minutes.
